rachelinjapan24 asked:

Although my boyfriend and I live thousands of miles apart we have managed to stay close over the past year of our seperation. He told me recently that he wants to quit smoking, and I want to help him anyway I can but I live so far away! He says that he can go a couple of days but then he gets this sudden attack and has to go out and buy a pack. Any ideas on how I can help him stop every time he gets the urge to go out and buy a pack and smoke it all at once?

sounds impossible, he can tell you he is quitting but you will never know unless you see him.

    good luck

You can’t get him to stop. As a smoker, I know that the only way to stop is if I WANT to stop. If he doesn’t want to, then it’s not going to happen.

Because you are so far way there isnt much you can do but be supportive of him.

Tell him to choose a day in the future and decide that he will quit smoking THAT DAY! It gives him time to mentally prepare to be a non-smoker. Then the night before, smoke smoke smoke. Anyone I know who did this ended up smoking until they puked and have never touched a cigarette since.

Send him those nicotine patches. They helped me quit smoking for good. Also ask him to get a prescription for a drug called Wellbutrin. These two combined makes it very hard to smoke because it strips the body of it’s craving…tom science

i think nicotine gum is good (say 4mg per gum), as it keeps the mouth occupied and solves the crave. A little word of caution though, chewing nicotine gum can also addictive as well except that it doesn’t pollute the air.

If he won’t quit, leave him. Not only will the smoke likely kill him, it can kill you.

tell him that smoking will destroy his cardiovascular system and ask him to see a phamasist if he is really serious about quiting, you shuold support him and recognise his effort for trying to quit smoking as this will boost his courage and keep him going.

Pray (im serious) and beside that well you can support him for quitting, but it is his decision not yours…. he has to do it alone.
